dream job

I just read this little interview with Denise Porcaro from flower girl in NYC. It's so cool to find people out there who have my dream job (and she has pretty great style too!)

Bloom

"Bloom is the first magazine of its kind to analyse the major trends in horticulture with informative and inspirational photography and texts, and their relation to the fashion, interior and industrial design, architecture, packaging, cosmetics, and food industries. It speaks to all levels of the industry, from hybrid creators to growers, buyers, distributors, retailers and florists. It is also destined for a much wider public as well as students and professionals; all those keen on photography, horticulture and contemporary creation."

"Bloom is produced in collaboration with several highly talented artists, stylists, designers and photographers. We enjoy sharing and promoting the work of the new talents we discover. Lending horticulture a new voice through the creativity of these contemporary artists, we wish to stimulate all our readers’ senses and imagination. We choose to publish an advertising-free magazine, allowing our readers to be fully immersed in our captivating stories."

Sounds amazing, I'm just a little sad that it is so expensive and that my french isn't all that great. Luckily, you can view a gallery of images from the last eight publications here.

daydreaming

Right now I'm daydreaming about opening up my own flower shop. How lovely would it be coming to work in such beautiful surroundings and playing with flowers all day!

beeetle

When I showed these images to my boyfriend last night, his response was something along the lines of "wow,  it's like your favourite thing and my favourite thing combined".  He has a thing for beetles, I have a thing for flowers, not a bad match!

Anyways, these lovely beetle illustrations, matched up with magnolia petals are by photographer Kari Herer and they are pretty great too - not a bad match at all.

Sunflower

Sunflowers would definitely have to be one of my favourite flowers (right up there with roses and orchids!). I remember we had a row of sunflowers planted in the back garden of the first house I ever lived in. One of my earliest memories is of collecting sunflower seeds with my mum and grandmother (from memory the flowers were much too tall for me to reach) and baking them to eat.

To me, Sunflowers seem like the perfect summer flower, all bright and yellow and happy.  I've got a pack of seeds all ready to plant, just waiting for it to get a little warmer here in Melbourne!

botanical art

Vintage botanical art is making me happy. Can't wait to go to this exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ballarat.
Also, here is a great site where you can print off a range of lovely vintage botanical illustrations for free!
